UPI Grabs Spanish Lovecraft Pics

Universal Pictures Intl. Spain has picked up rookie director Jose Luis Aleman’s Spanish horror flick LA HERENCIA VALDEMAR for theatrical distribution, reports VARIETY. Based on H.P. Lovecraft novels, the story flips between Victorian England and now, and follows the investigation into a woman's disappearance after she visits a mysterious location.

Madrid's La Cruzada Ent. produced the 13.5 million Euro production.

The film stars Daniele Liotti, Oscar Jaenada (THE LIMITS OF CONTROL), Laia Marull (TAKE MY EYES), Silvia Abascal and Paul Naschy.

The film will be released as a two-parter with the first film coming out Jan. 22nd and the second hitting theaters in the fall.

Sony Pictures Home Ent. is in negotiations to acquire the Spanish home entertainment rights.
