Uni Offers Sanctum for 3-D Underwater Drama

Relativity and Universal will partner to make the 3-D underwater drama SANCTUM, reports VARIETY. The story follows a diving expedition that goes array when a storm causes a cave-in while the divers are miles within a cave.

The film will be released under the Rogue label. Universal will handle the distribution and marketing in North America, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

The $30 million production will start shooting in Australia at the end of the year. Wayfare Ent. is ponying up some of the money.

Alister Grierson is directing from a script by Andrew Wight and John Garvin. James Cameron, who worked with Wight on his underwater docs, will exec produce alongside Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Wayfare heads Ben Browning, Michael Maher and Peter Rawlinson. FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder is the co-producer.
