Trainspotting Director To Open Indie Animation Studio
Danny Boyle, in the midst of buzz for his SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, is opening a new animation company called Treat Studios, according to blog site SLASHFILM.com.
Boyle (28 DAYS LATER, TRAINSPOTTING) is working with British animators Julia Pott, Robin Bushell, Will Crook, Matt Layzell and Alex Robinson. The director has previously said that animation and musicals are two genres he has yet to work on, and would like to.
Boyle had plans earlier this year to work with MILLIONS screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce for an animated feature based on Terry Pratchett's kids series THE BROMELIAD TRILOGY, but told THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER last week the project has been canceled. "You talk about indie financing being troublesome -- animation is so expensive because you can't estimate how long it's going to take," he said. "On most films, if you haven't stopped after 12 weeks, they're going to stop you anyway, whereas an animated film can go on for years and years."
BROMELIAD is at DreamWorks.
