Toxic Avenger Getting Remake

Deadline.com reports that Original Media and Dutch firm Endemol have obtained the remake rights to Troma Films’ THE TOXIC AVENGER. Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin are set to produce. Original is out looking for writers.

The new take on the tale of Toxie will have a stronger environmental bent. In the original, health club mop boy Melvin is transformed by toxic waste into a pollution-fighting superhero in New Jersey.

The only bad news for fans of the original is that Original plans to make this Toxie for the PG-13 crowd.

Weed Road Pictures' Kerry Foster is the exec producer with Troma founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz co-producing with Shara Kay.
