They’re Game: Universal Cuts Deal with Hasbro
Universal Pictures and Hasbro announced a six-year partnership to make at least four feature films based on Hasbro’s board games and branded properties, VARIETY reports.
MONOPOLY, CANDY LAND, CLUE, OUIJA, BATTLESHIP, MAGIC: THE GATHERING and STRETCH ARMSTRONG are among Hasbro’s properties.
DreamWorks and Paramount’s summer hit TRANSFORMERS (also a Hasbro property) paved the way for a sequel and the deal between Hasbro and Universal.
Universal has exclusive rights to all Hasbro properties except TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE, which will be released in 2009 by Paramount.
Ridley Scott and Scott Free have already been developing a MONOPOLY movie for several years.
Universal chairman Marc Shmuger, co-chairman David Linde and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner announced the deal on Wednesday.
