Santa Clause Sequel Tops Box Office

THE SANTA CLAUSE 2, with visual effects by Tippet Studios and GVFX, got a jump on its holiday predecessors and wrapped up the top spot this weekend, earning $29.8M in its debut. Psychological thriller THE RING, with visual effects by Method Studios, Rhythm & Hues, Asylum and Tippet Studios, came in second for the second weekend in a row, with $18.5M for a three-week take of $64.9M. Debuting in third with $14.5M was the action-comedy I SPY, with visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks. Dropping to fourth place was MTV Films' JACKASS: THE MOVIE earning $13.1M in its second week for a cume of $42.5M. GHOST SHIP sank to fifth in its second week out. The horror flick, featuring visual effects by Photon VFX, earned $6.5M for $21.3M gross. The thriller RED DRAGON, with visual effects by Cinesite, took another tumble this week, losing 938 theaters and falling to ninth place with $2.6M for the weekend and $88.9M to date. Rounding out the top twelve were Michael Moore's documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, featuring animation by FlickerLab, expanding to 162 screens and earning $1.2M for $4.6M total and eleventh place. Big Idea's animated bible story JONAH: A VEGGIETALES MOVIE landed in twelfth place, earning $1.5M for $21.6M to date. Debuting on 58 IMAX theaters was the large screen version of STAR WARS EPISODE II "ATTACK OF THE CLONES," which earned $1.45M for a whopping $25,000 per screen average and fourteenth place.
