New Line's RUSH HOUR 3 (with vfx from ILM, Halon Ent. and Element FX, among others) debuted with a box office rush of $49.1M for the weekend period ended Aug. 12. Meanwhile, Universal's record breaking THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (with vfx from The Senate, Lip Sync Post and Snow Business) finished second with $32.8M after a 51% drop off, with a two-week cume of $131.5M. Fox's THE SIMPSONS MOVIE followed in third place with $11.2M, good enough for a $152.3M tally. Fourth place belonged to newcomer STARDUST from Paramount (boasting vfx from Double Negative, LipSync Post, Cinesite, The Senate, Baseblack, Machine and Rushes), which conjured $9.1M. New Line's HAIRSPRAY (with vfx from Intelligent Creatures) moved up to fifth with $6.39M for a cume of $92.1M.Buena Vista's UNDERDOG (with vfx from Framestore CFC and Cinesite, among others) fell to sixth with $6.35M for a cume of $24.6M. Universal's I KNOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY finished seventh with $5.8M for a cume of $103.7M. Warner Bros.' HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (with vfx by Double Negative, Framestore CFC, ILM, Cinesite, MPC, Rising Sun and more) settled for eighth with $5.4M, giving it $272M to date. Warner Bros.' NO RESERVATIONS came in ninth with $3.8M and $32M. And Sony/Revolution's DADDY DAY CAMP debuted in 10th with $3.4M for a five-day cume of $5M.
