George A. Romero is in talks to direct an English remake of Dario Argento's DEEP RED, reports VARIETY. Italian producer Claudio Argento, Dario's brother, is producing the 3-D flick. Robbie Little's The Little Company is shopping the project at Cannes.

The original 1975 cult hit followed a pianist who inadvertently gets wrapped up in a string of gruesome murders with a psychic bent. Along with a plucky female reporter he tries to solve the mystery. Claudio Argento has written the script for the redux.

Production is set to begin in Canada this fall.

Dario Argento will not be involved in the remake, despite having worked with Romero previously on films such as DAWN OF THE DEAD..
