Anime director Rintaro (METROPOLIS, X: THE MOVIE, SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HARLOCK) and Japanese production house Madhouse (X/1999, X: THE MOVIE, METROPOLIS, TRIGUN) along with Paris-based Denis Friedman Prods. have announced a new CGI-animated feature, YONNA YONNA PEGUIN, reports VARIETY. The film is set to debut in Japan in December 2008.

The story features a little girl who gets sucked into a fantasy world populated by goblins who believe that their savior will be a penguin.

Shochiku will distribute in Japan, Hong Kong's Golden Network in other parts of Asia and France's Wild Bunch in other international territories. North American rights will be repped jointly by Madhouse's U.S. division and Shochiku, but a U.S. distributor is TBA.

To be presented in three original versions: Japanese, French and English, the reported below-the-line budget is $12 million, excluding voice casts.

Madhouse has established a combined project team with Japanese sister company Dynamo Pictures to produce the beginning and end sections of the movie. DFP will animate the middle section and France's Mikros Image will handle post-production.
