Monsters Tramples Box Office
Once again, those CG beasties dominated the box office. MONSTERS, INC. collected a whopping $46.2M in its second weekend bring its cume to $122.8M after 10 days. But expect Sulley and Mike to feel the effects of a young wizard named Harry when HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERERS STONE bows on Friday. The Farelly Brothers latest comedy SHALLOW HAL, with visual effects by Alterian Studios & Artist's Asylum Inc. had a big weekend, collecting $23.3M in its debut. Futuristic flick THE ONE, with visual effects by Digital Filmworks, ComputerCafe and others, was third, adding $9.1M to its total for a cume of $31.9M after two weeks. Kevin Spacey starrer K-PAX, with primary visual effects by Centropolis Effects, LLC, landed in sixth, earning $6.2M bringing its three week total to $40.3M. The thriller 13 GHOSTS, with primary visual effects by Manex Entertainment, slipped two spots to seventh, with $4.2M this weekend and $34M total. Crime drama TRAINING DAY, with visual effects by Cinesite, rounded out the top ten, earning $1.9M for $72.5M gross to date. FROM HELL, with primary visual effects by Digiscope and Illusion Arts, fell four spots to land in eleventh place, with a $1.8M take for the weekend and $29.2M total.
