Mission 2 Has Gone From The Top Spot

With the new actioner from Nicolas Cage racing in to the #1 spot at the U.S. box office, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 fell to #2 in its third weekend in theatres. Disney’s GONE IN 60 SECONDS grossed US$25.33 million on its way to receiving the checkered flag. MISSION, with primary visual effects by Pacific Data Images, Double Negative Ltd. and CFC, grossed another $17.23 million, raising its exploding cume to $158.1 million and is on a pace to beat the finishing cume of the original MISSION installment. Disney’s DINOSAUR has slipped to fourth grossing another $8.82 million. The price-tag plump picture has brought in $110.5 million to date. GLADIATOR, with primary visual effects by Mill Film Ltd., fell to 5th grossing $7.07 million. The Roman rampage has reached $150.1 million in U.S. ticket receipts, making it only the 15th R-rated flick to hit that mark. New Line’s FREQUENCY grossed $1.45 million at #7 during its seventh weekend, bringing its cume to about $40.1 million. Sinking to the 10th spot, Universal's U-571 nabbed an estimated $1.06 million, advancing its cume to $72.91 million. Fox’s WHERE THE HEART IS, with a digital tornado created by Cinesite, finished at #12 with a gross of $671,679. The dustbowl drama has an U.S. cume of $31.24 million. THE FLINTSTONES VIVA ROCK VEGAS, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, rolled in at 14th place with a receipt total of $519,435. Universal’s FLINTSTONES follow-up has managed to make $32 million thus far, not nearly the $130.5 million the original made. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #25, with a gross of $160,000 and a cume of $30.32 million; THE ROAD TO EL DORADO at #29, with a gross of $145,831 and a cume of $50.48 million; FINAL DESTINATION at #32, with a gross of $128,445 and a cume of $51.77 million; THE TIGGER MOVIE at #33, with a gross of $124,694 and a cume of $44.98 million; ROMEO MUST DIE at #39, with a gross of $85,206 and a cume of $55.88 million; MISSION TO MARS at #42, with a gross of $80,047 and a cume of $60.02 million; TOY STORY 2 at #43, with a gross of $73,131 and a cume of $245.5 million; SNOW DAY at #44, with a gross of $72,789 and a cume of $59.74 million; BATTLEFIELD EARTH at #45, with a gross of $71,778 and a cume of $21.06 million; and ALIEN ADVENTURE at #46, with a gross of $68,933 and a cume of $1.19 million.
