SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Flying Bark Productions will be commencing production on the first animated theatrical release of international hit property, Maya the Bee.

The announcement of the 3D stereoscopic movie was made at a special afternoon reception at Flying Bark Productions for His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium who is in Australia in the framework of a Belgian Economic Mission.

Combining exquisite environments with natural landscapes, Maya the Bee will follow the lovable character’s desire to escape her heavily regimented existence in the hive and experience freedom to explore at her own will.

“It is an absolute honour to announce the Maya the Bee movie during the visit of His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium to our Flying Bark Productions studios. Maya the Bee has become a much-loved and revered character throughout Europe, the US and Asia, entertaining television audiences with her joyful spirit for over 35 years so we are thrilled to be going into production on Maya’s highly anticipated film debut” said Flying Bark Productions’ Managing Director, Jim Ballantine.

Maya the Bee will bring together the experience and knowledge of outstanding Australian and European creative talent on the first ever animated feature to be produced as an official treaty co-production between Australia and Germany.

The original Maya the Bee television series was first produced in the 1970s and was an imaginative blend of fun-filled and thrilling adventures that gained Maya loyal fans from all corners of the globe.  Today a new generation of fans enjoy the tales of Maya the Bee with a 3D HD television series seen in European countries as well as consumer products and publishing available internationally.
