Man on Fire Blazes Past Kill Bill

The Denzel Washington revenge thriller, MAN ON FIRE, outpaced the Jennifer Garner comedy, 13 GOING ON 30, at the box office for the weekend ended April 25, 2004. The Fox film grabbed $22.7M compared to Universal’s $21M in their debuts. Meanwhile, Miramax’s KILL BILL VOL. 2 (with vfx by K.N.B. EFX Group) slipped nearly 59% in its second week to $10.4M and a cume of $42.9M. Lions Gate’s THE PUNISHER (with vfx by Fantasy II Film Effects) dipped nearly 55% in its sophomore outing to finish fourth with a total of $24.1M. Disney’s HOME ON THE RANGE held the fifth spot with $3.5M, bringing its less than stellar total to $42.5M. Warner Bros.’ SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED (with vfx by Rhythm & Hues and Giant Killer Robots) held the sixth spot with $3.4M and $76.7M to date. Sony/Revolution’s HELLBOY (with vfx by The Orphanage, Tippett Studio, Eden FX, HimAnI Prods., among others) finished seventh with $3.1M and $54.8M so far. Fox Searchlight’s JOHNSON FAMILY VACATION took the eighth position with $3M and a cume of $25M. Miramax’s ELLA ENCHANTED (with vfx by The Moving Picture Co., Cinesite (Europe) and Double Negative, among others) landed in ninth place with $2.9M and a total of $17.4M.
