Universal has acquired the film rights to Mattel's seminal toy line BARBIE, reports VARIETY. Laurence Mark is set to produce. Universal will be going out to writers to find their take on the story of the classic blonde. Mark noted that considering the fact that Barbie has held more than 120 different jobs, there will be no lack of plot ideas. Barbie GM/Mattel SVP Richard Dickson and Barbie VP of entertainment Rob Hudnut will exec produce.
