Lionsgate has picked up Jim Henson Co.'s HAPPYTIME MURDERS, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Jim Henson Co. purchased the spec script from Todd Berger in 2008. Brian Henson is set to direct.

The story takes place in a world where puppets are second-class citizens. A puppet, a former cop turned private eye, teams up with his old human partner to investigate the murders of the cast of "The Happytown Gang," a 1980s puppet program.

Berger conceived of the story with Dee Austin Robertson.

Henson will producer with his sister, Lisa Henson.
