Moviegoers opted for comedy at this weekend's U.S. box office, with HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, visual effects by Pixel Magic, debuting at number one with $23.7M. Cinesite and Effects Assoc. in the U.K. did visual effects for SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, which debuted at No. 2 with $19.6M. CHICAGO, with visual effects from Toybox and Film Effects Inc., moved up to third place, taking in $10.7 to bring its total to $63.8M, while THE RECRUIT, featuring effects by Pacific Title, dropped to fourth place with $9.2M and a cume of $29.8. FINAL DESTINATION 2, with visual effects by Pixel Magic, dropped to fifth place, taking in $8.3 and a second week total of $27.8 while DELIVER US FROM EVA debuted in sixth place with $6.6M. Still hopping around in seventh place is KANGAROO JACK with $6.1M for the weekend and $53M cume. Asylum and The Secret Lab did the visual effects for the down under comedy. BIKER BOYZ, a motorcycle racing flick with visual effects done by R!OT, finished in the backstretch with $4.2M and $16 total. DARKNESS FALLS, with visual effects by Animal Logic and Sony Pictures Imageworks, dropped to the No. 9 spot with $3.8M with $26.8 while LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, with primary visual effects by Weta Digital, finished in tenth place with $3.5M for the weekend but a total of $320.8M to date.
