The Hong Kong action film IRON MONKEY, with primary visual effects by MetroLight, dropped to tenth bringing in $3.2M for a $10.8M gross. Teen scream JOY RIDE, with primary visual effects by Spectrum Effects Inc., fell out of the top ten in its third week, grossing $2.6M for $18.8M and twelfth place. In limited release, Richard Linklater’s animated film, WAKING LIFE, scored close to $90,000 from just 4 locations. The critically acclaimed film’s unique look was created by “painting over” live-action footage. More than 30 artists animated the actors and backgrounds using an interpolated rotoscoping technique developed by Bob Sabiston. The film will expand to another 23 theaters next week and plans to be in 125 theaters by Thanksgiving. Box office information was obtained from yahoo.com.
