Harvey Entertainment has announced their acquisition of the U.S. rights from Pearson Television International for the feature-length film A MONKEY’S TALE. The film follows the story of two tribes of monkeys – one tree dwelling and one ground dwelling – and what happens when one curious ape falls into the other tribe’s world. The film recently won best animated feature at the Hollywood Film Festival and the Toronto Sun Animation Award at the Sprockets International Film Festival for Children. The picture was directed by Jean-François Laguionie and produced by Steve Walsh, Les Films Du Triangle and Cologne Cartoon, in association with Entertainment Rights plc and France 3 Cinema. TALE features a sound track from British singing group Westlife and a voice cast including Golden Globe winner John Hurt, Michael York, Rik Mayall and Michael Gambon. Harvey plans to release the film in theatres in the States in early 2001. Rick Mischel, Harvey president, said, "A MONKEY’S TALE is an extraordinary film with an exciting, powerful story aimed at a family audience. We are proud to be one of the first companies to release an independently-produced animated film theatrically in the U.S." Joe Abrams, executive VP, Pearson Television International, said, "A MONKEY’S TALE is a captivating film that already proved a winner in numerous territories around the world, including the U.K. and France. We are delighted that The Harvey Entertainment Company are bringing this magical film to the U.S. market."
