Hannibal Slips To Second At US Box Office

With live-action comedy/adventure THE MEXICAN taking first, three-week champion HANNIBAL slipped to second with a gross of $10.05 million. The brain-eating adventure, with primary visual effects by Mill Film, has gobbled up $142.8 million. Warner Bros.' SEE SPOT RUN posted a third place debut. The gross-out family comedy took home $9.72 million. Holding its ground in fifth, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON floated another $4.91 million. The romantic fantasy, with primary visual effects by Blue Sky Studios, CFC/MVFX and Manex Visual Effects, has secured $88.66 million thus far. Idling in sixth, TRAFFIC smoked up an additional $4.48 million. The drug war drama, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, has smuggled in $92.27 million to date. Disney's RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT fell to eighth, with a gross of $3.96 million. The summer vacation saving adventure has secured $27.59 million thus far. 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND plummeted from third to ninth, with a ticket-take of $3.11 million. The Elvis crime caper, with primary visual effects by Rainmaker Digital Pictures, has drummed up $12.25 million. Slipping out of the top ten to finish at #12, CAST AWAY collected $2.07 million. The island adventure, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has accumulated a hefty $223.8 million. O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? rode into #13 for a second straight week, grossing $1.94 million. The 1920s odyssey, with primary visual effects by Digital Domain and Cinesite, has laughed in $30.82 million to date. Fox's MONKEYBONE slipped to 15th place with a gross of $1.13 million. The comic disaster, with primary visual effects by Full Scale Effects Inc., Howard Granite Films and M5 Industries, has eked out $4.34 million from moviegoers. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: SNATCH at #21, with a gross of $486,420 and a cume of $29.53 million; THIRTEEN DAYS at #23, with a gross of $365,400 and a cume of $33.64 million; 102 DALMATIANS at #26, with a gross of $282,855 and a cume of $65.78 million; THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE at #27, with a gross of $281,160 and a cume of $86.07 million; UNBREAKABLE at #31, with a gross of $259,278 and a cume of $94.21 million; RUGRATS IN PARIS at #34, with a gross of $156,929 and a cume of $76.1 million; LEFT BEHIND at #38, with a gross of $138,153 and a cume of $3.97 million; CYBERWORLD 3D at #40, with a gross of $119,100 and a cume of $6.33 million; and VERTICAL LIMIT at #43, with a gross of $98,553 and a cume of $68.47 million.
