Groove Grapples With Hannibal In Sweden & the UK

In a battle for first, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE and HANNIBAL went toe to toe in Sweden and the U.K., with the cannibalistic cringer taking a good chunk out of the rest of the international box office. In Sweden, HANNIBAL knocked GROOVE out of the top spot with a gross of $1.02 million. GROOVE grabbed second, grossing $456,488, thereby lifting its Swedish cume to $1.44 million. Jumping up a spot to #7, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON floated $107,750, pushing its Swedish cume to $1.23 million. In ninth, CAST AWAY rescued another $90,711, raising its Swedish cume to $2.36 million. Closing out the Swedish top ten, BEDAZZLED added $85,692 to its $574,746 total. In the U.K., HANNIBAL bested GROOVE for a second straight week, grossing $5.11 million, thus elevating its cume to $19.34 million. Repeating in second, GROOVE grossed $2.92 million, escalating its U.K. cume to $7.77 million. In fourth, THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE flew in an additional $1.08 million, advancing its U.K. cume to $4.46 million. At #6, TRAFFIC smuggled home another $796,033, increasing its U.K total to $8.39 million. CROUCHING TIGER tagged $680,471 in eighth place, bringing its U.K. cume to $9.43 million. At #9, DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS blew in an additional $642,972, raising its U.K. cume to $1.74 million. Finishing off the top ten, CAST AWAY added $438,861 to its $19.98 million U.K. cume. In its premiere in Spain, HANNIBAL hung its hat in first with a ticket-take of $2.89 million. VERTICAL LIMIT climbed into third, grossing $714,291, thus increasing its Spanish cume to $5.26 million. In fourth, TRAFFIC raced in with an additional $628,557, advancing its Spanish total to $2.08 million. At #5, 102 DALMATIANS barked up $620,920, lifting its Spanish total to $2.55 million. CAST AWAY sailed into sixth, with a gross of $598,479, pushing its Spanish cume to $8.59 million. THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE swung in $268,040 in eighth place, growing its Spanish total to $1.27 million. In ninth, ALMOST FAMOUS added $247,885 to its Spanish total of $589,269. In Australia, HANNIBAL took top spot with a gross of $1.45 million, raising its total to $4.99 million. At #2, ALMOST FAMOUS rocked in $886,920, advancing its two-week Australian cume to $1.09 million. CAST AWAY washed up in sixth, scoring $524,840, thereby nudging its Australian cume to $10.91 million. CROUCHING TIGER descended into seventh, grossing $367,175, thus blooming its Australian total to $3.88 million. In Canada, HANNIBAL dined on $1.21 million in first place, growing its cume to $7.37 million. Warner Bros.' 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND premiered in second, taking home $677,957. In fourth, TRAFFIC smoked another $560,081, rounding its Canadian cume to $7.43 million. CROUCHING TIGER's $453,123 gross in seventh, pushed its total to $6.69 million, making it the highest-grossing foreign language film in Canadian history. Dropping 31% from its debut, RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT placed in eighth, grossing $344,488, thereby raising its Canadian cume to $849,113. Rounding out the Canadian top ten, CAST AWAY added $209,471 to its cume of $14.79 million. In Germany, HANNIBAL remained in second with a gross of $4.36 million, advancing its total to $12.55 million. 102 DALMATIANS was spotted in third, grossing $1.2 million, raising its total to $6.43 million. In fourth, CAST AWAY smashed home another $1.18 million, bringing its German cume to $27.48 million. LITTLE NICKY possessed the sixth slot in its German debut with a gross of $767,991. VERTICAL LIMIT leapt into seventh place in Germany with a gross of $400,427, advancing its cume to $7.05 million. Closing out the German top ten, BEDAZZLED added $264,359 to its $6.54 million cume. In Italy, second place also went to HANNIBAL, which grossed $1.71 million, increasing its cume to $10.83 million. Making its Italian debut in fifth, VERTICAL LIMIT rescued $1.21 million. CROUCHING TIGER captured #8, with a gross of $586,036, lifting its Italian total to $2.56 million. In Japan, UNBREAKABLE claimed the top spot for a second week, grossing $4.91 million, thereby advancing its cume to $13.77 million. THE CRIMSON RIVERS flowed into third with a ticket-take of $1.27 million, raising its Japanese cume to $9.18 million. In France, VERTICAL LIMIT made its premiere in fourth, grossing $2.88 million. In fifth, 102 DALMATIANS collared $2.49 million, lifting its four-week French total to $12.14 million. At #8, BEDAZZLED seduced $877,219 in its French nod.
