F/X Flicks Flicker With Lost Souls Debut In Third

With live-action films MEET THE PARENTS and REMEMBER THE TITANS reclaiming their first and second spots respectively, the debut of New Line’s LOST SOULS only managed to place third. The anti-Christ adventure, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, grossed US$7.95 million. The reissue of THE EXORCIST slipped to sixth with a gross of $5.24 million. The horror classic, with digital clean-up by Pacific Title Digital, has scared up $30.53 million thus far. When the dust cleared, ALMOST FAMOUS edged out live-action mockumentary, BEST IN SHOW, to claim ninth place, grossing $2.19 million. The 1970s coming-of-age flick, with primary visual effects by Manex and Pacific Title Digital, has accumulated $26.68 million to date. DIGIMON: THE MOVIE took a big hit dropping 61% from its debut last week to finish in 11th place. The digital monsters' feature grossed $1.94 million, lifting its U.S. cume to $7.33 million. Falling from seventh to land in 13th, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT sliced up another $1.21 million. The tongue-in-cheek blood bath, with primary visual effects by Pacific Title Digital, has amassed $20.16 million to date. WHAT LIES BENEATH is finally fading with a gross of $648,531 in 14th place. The ghostly gasp, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has floated in $153.1 million. In addition, the leggy SPACE COWBOYS has also begun to drift out of box office glory with a 15th place finish, grossing $543,431. The valiant veteran astronaut adventure, with primary visual effects by ILM, has wrangled $89.06 million in the U.S. alone. In at 19th, the Imax 3D toon, CYBERWORLD 3D, eye-popped audiences to the tune of $323,702. The toon showcase has grossed $751,880 in its first 10-days in release. Rounding out the top twenty, CHICKEN RUN is still collecting feed, amounting to $267,412. The clay-animated cavalcade has captured $106.3 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: GONE IN 60 SECONDS at #23, with a gross of $233,159 and a cume of $101 million; THE CELL at #25, with a gross of $220,909 and a cume of $60.45 million; X-MEN at #27, with a gross of $212,015 and a cume of $156.5 million; SCARY MOVIE at #31, with a gross of $197,805 and a cume of $155.9 million; DINOSAUR at #33, with a gross of $160,562 and a cume of $137 million; THE PERFECT STORM at #35, with a gross of $151,098 and a cume of $181.2 million; GLADIATOR at #40, with a gross of $114,759 and a cume of $186.6 million; and T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #49, with a gross of $64,496 and a cume of $34.81 million.
