Exorcist Out Scares Digital Monsters Debut

Slipping from second to fourth, THE EXORCIST still scared up more money than the debut of DIGIMON: THE MOVIE. The horror classic, with digital clean-up by Pacific Title Digital, possessed another US$4.44 million, levitating its reissue cume to $23.94 million. 20th Century Fox’s DIGIMON: THE MOVIE’s premiere placed an unimpressive fifth, grossing $4.23 million. With a gross of $3.72 million, ALMOST FAMOUS fell three slots to finish sixth. The 1970s coming-of-age tale, with primary visual effects by Manex and Pacific Title Digital, has pushed its cume over the $23.26 million mark. URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT surfaced in seventh with a gross of $2.54 million. The teen body-count caper, with primary visual effects by Pacific Title Digital, has clinched $18.24 million thus far. The summer sensation, WHAT LIES BENEATH, slipped to 11th, with a gross of $1.12 million. The Michelle Pfeiffer-Harrison Ford thriller, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has brought home $152.1 million thus far. In 12th, SPACE COWBOYS rounded up another $882,774. The wrinkled space wranglers, with primary visual effects by ILM, have a cume of $88.24 million. New Line’s THE CELL slipped to 17th, with a gross of $529,362. The serial killer thriller, with primary visual effects by Toybox, has murdered $60.02 million so far. Rounding out the top twenty, NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS gobbled up an additional $439,560. The robust romp, with primary visual effects by Double Negative Ltd., has accumulated $121.4 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: SCARY MOVIE at #21, with a gross of $420,686 and a cume of $155.5 million; X-MEN at #25, with a gross of $340,944 and a cume of $156.2 million; GONE IN 60 SECONDS at #26, with a gross of $332,598 and a cume of $100.6 million; CHICKEN RUN at #27, with a gross of $318,799 and a cume of $105.9 million; CYBERWORLD 3D at #29, with a gross of $278,199 and a cume of $278,199; THE PERFECT STORM at #30, with a gross of $264,305 and a cume of $181 million; DINOSAUR at #32, with a gross of $211,950 and a cume of $136.8 million; GLADIATOR at #34, with a gross of $184,742 and a cume of $186.4 million; THE PATRIOT at #39, with a gross of $184,742 and a cume of $113.2 million; BLESS THE CHILD at #42, with a gross of $103,623 and a cume of $29 million; HOLLOW MAN at #45, with a gross of $92,001 and cume of $72.85 million; HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME at #46, with a gross of $90,118 and a cume of $12.67 million; and T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #50, with a gross of $59,793 and a cume of $34.69 million.
