Disney, Zemeckis Start Dark Life

Walt Disney Pictures, Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers and the Gotham Group are teaming up to adapt DARK LIFE, Kat Falls’ YA book that comes out this fall, reports VARIETY. Zemeckis will direct.

The near-future story finds humans going to the ocean floor to escape environmental disasters on the surface. An underwater boy with special powers partners with a surface girl to blow the lid off a government conspiracy.

Zemeckis will produce with Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey. Jackie Levine will oversee for ImageMovers. Gotham’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman are also producers.

It is not yet known whether the film will be performance capture or not.
