Comedy With Devilish F/X Bedazzles US Auds At #2

With the Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller comedy, MEET THE PARENTS, taking the top stop for the third straight week, the new devilish comedy, BEDAZZLED, debuted in #2. The sell-your-soul side-splitter, with primary visual effects by Rhythm & Hues, seduced US$13.11 million out of U.S. moviegoers' pockets. Losing 59% at the ticket window, New Line's LOST SOULS scored only $3.24 million in seventh. The evil enchanter, with primary visual effects by Cinesite and yU + Co, has scared up $12.88 million in total in 10 days. Coming in 8th, the reissue of THE EXORCIST spun another $2.91 million. The classic fright fest, with digital clean-up by Pacific Title Digital, has grossed $34.82 million thus far, making it the highest grossing re-release in history behind the STAR WARS trilogy. ALMOST FAMOUS sunk to 12th, grossing $1.24 million. The hippie hi-jinks, with primary visual effects by Manex and Pacific Title Digital, has accumulated a disappointing $28.71 million thus far. Falling from 11th to finish in 15th, DIGIMON: THE MOVIE dug up another $901,455. The TV series-turned-feature has collected only $8.54 million so far in the States. In at #17, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT took home $524,513. The teen terror, with primary visual effects by Pacific Title Digital, has drummed up $21.01 million in total. WHAT LIES BENEATH sunk to #19, with a gross of $348,471. The box office veteran, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has a cume of $153.6 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: CYBERWORLD 3D at #22, with a gross of $310,194 and a cume of $1.19 million; NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS at #23, with a gross of $238,070 and a cume of $122.1 million; SPACE COWBOYS at #24, with a gross of $236,677 and a cume of $89.44 million; CHICKEN RUN at #25, with a gross of $206,383 and a cume of $106.6 million; GONE IN 60 SECONDS at #29, with a gross of $164.431 and a cume of $101.2 million; X-MEN at #30, with a gross of $157,751 and a cume of $156.7 million; BLESS THE CHILD at #34, with a gross of $127,269 and a cume of $29.22 million; DINOSAUR at #35, with a gross of $121,682 and a cume of $137.2 million; SCARY MOVIE at #36, with a gross of $113,029 and a cume of $156.1 million; THE CELL at #37, with a gross of $112,431 and a cume of $60.65 million; THE PERFECT STORM at #43, with a gross of $81,549 and a cume of $181.4 million; and T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #48, with a gross of $62,794 and a cume of $34.89 million.
