Box Office Gives Madea Get Out of Jail Free Card

With a take of $41.03M, TYLER PERRY'S MADEA GOES TO JAIL far and away won the weekend box office for Lionsgate in its opening frame.

Focus Features' stop-motion CORALINE (animation from Laika) continues to do well, coming in second with $11.43M and a three-week gross of $53.8M.

Fox's actioner TAKEN is also showing staying power, getting $11.28M, placing third and in four weeks has grossed $95.03M.

HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU (Warner Bros./New Line) made another $8.6M for fourth place and in three weeks has a cume of $70.1M. Big Oscar winner (with eight trophies) SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (Fox Searchlight) placed fifth with $8.4M and in 15 weeks has made $98.4M.

Dropping more than 80 percent was FRIDAY THE 13TH (Warner Bros./New Line, vfx by Asylum FX, falling from first to sixth place and making just $7.9M, with a two-week cume of $55.1M. Sony's PAUL BLART: MALL COP came in seventh place with $6.8M and a six-week gross of $121.2M.

Eighth place went to Buena Vista's CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC with $6.7M and a two-week haul of $27.4M.

The other opener for the week, Screen Gems' FIRED UP! (vfx by Lola Visual Effects) made $5.5M and placed ninth. And in tenth place, Sony's THE INTERNATIONAL (vfx from Universal Production Partners) made $4.5M and has a two-week take of $17.03M.

In animation, Disney's BOLT made $316,792 and in 14 weeks has grossed $114.05M. Universal's THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX (animation by Framestore) earned another $130,395 and in 10 weeks has grossed $50.7M.

WALTZ WITH BASHIR (Sony Pictures Classics) earned $115,901 and in nine weeks has made $1.6M. The 2009 Oscar Shorts program from Shorts International earned $105,665 and has a three-week cume of $522,624.

DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA made $97,817 and $180M in 16 weeks. FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit) made $47,280 in 10 thteaters and has a 28 week take of $12.96M.
