Box Office Approves of Tyler Perry's Getting Married

It wasn't a very memorable weekend, but TYLER PERRY'S WHY DID I GET MARRIED scored first place at the box office for the period ended Oct. 14, 2007. The Lionsgate comedy took in an estimated $21.5M in its debut. Buena Vista's THE GAME PLAN (with vfx from Intelligent Creatures, Look! Effects and Sandman Studios) dropped to second with $11.5M and a three-week cume of $59.4M. Rocketing to third place with a wide release was Warner Bros.' MICHAEL CLAYTON, the George Clooney drama, which grabbed $11M and $12M in two weeks. Sony's WE OWN THE NIGHT (with vfx from Digital Domain), bowed in fourth with $11M. Paramount/DreamWorks' THE HEARTBREAK KID followed in fifth with $7.4M and $26M for two weeks. ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE debuted in sixth for Universal (with vfx from MPC and Machine) with $6.1M. Universal's THE KINGDOM (with vfx from Rhythm & Hues) settled for seventh with $4.5M and a three-week cume of $40M. Sony/Revolution's ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (with vfx from Eden FX, FX Cartel and Mokko Studio) rose to eighth with $4M and a tally of $13M. Screen Gems' RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION (with vfx from Invisible Pictures, Luma Pictures, Mr. X and Tatopoulos Studios) fell to ninth with $2.6M and $48M. Tenth place belonged to Fox's THE SEEKER: THE DARK IS RISING (with vfx from Mr. X, Rising Sun Pictures and Hydraulx), which scarred up $2.1M and $7.1M.

Meanwhile, BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT (with vfx enhancements from Sony Pictures Imageworks, Illusion Arts, Lola Visual Effects and The Orphanage) collected $63,000 on one screen in L.A. and one in New York for a two-week total of $208,000.
