Filmmakers Scott McGehee and Dave Siegel (THE DEEP END, BEE SEASON) are working on an adaptation of THE ALCHEMIST for the Weinstein Company, COMINGSOON.NET reports.

Laurence Fishburne and A-Mark Entertainment bought the rights to Paulo Coelho's adventure novel about an Andalusian shepherd boy in 2007, planning to direct the project. The Weinsteins came on board to produce and distribute the movie more than a year later.

It's unknown if Fishburne is still involved as a director or starring in a key role.
