This moved another Rio-based film to second. Fox and Blue Sky’s animated hit RIO added $14.8 million to its $104 million cume.
Lionsgate’s TYLER PERRY'S MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY slipped from second to third, dragging in an additional $9.86 million and lifting its cume to $40.9 million.
Fox’s WATER FOR ELEPHANTS pulled into fourth with $9.34 million. With vfx from Crazy Horse Effects, Proof, Shade VFX and With A Twist Studio, the circus melodrama has tallied up $32.5 million to date.
Buena Vista’s PROM danced into fifth with $4.71 million in its opening weekend.
In sixth, HOODWINKED TOO! HOOD VS. EVIL scored $4.11 million for the Weinstein Company.
TriStar’s SOUL SURFER stayed steady in seventh with $3.37 million. With vfx from Engine Room, the true-life shark attack drama has washed up $33.8 million thus far.
In its fifth week, FilmDistrict’s INSIDIOUS moved up one slot to eighth, earning $2.69 million. With vfx from Fractured FX, the haunted house flick has amassed $48.3 million to date.
Universal’s HOP tumbled from fourth to ninth, raising another $2.69 million. With vfx from Rhythm & Hues, the Easter Bunny flick has a cume of $105.4 million.
Summit’s SOURCE CODE finished off the top ten for the second week. With vfx from Modus Fx, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Oblique FX and Rodeo FX, the sci-fi thriller added $2.51 million to its $48.9 million cume.
