Eyetronics Scans Summer Films

What do BATMAN BEGINS, LAND OF THE DEAD and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY have in common? All three summer films employed high-resolution scanning services from Eyetronics to create digital effects in less time.

Eyetronics offers lightweight 3D scanning equipment that can produce a full body scan in 90 seconds, versus the 20 to 30 minutes normally required.

In the case of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Eyetronics produced facial scans of actor Deep Roy during several performances. The Moving Picture Company, a London VFX house, scaled and composited the scans to create the films band of singing and dancing Oompa Loompas.

For BATMAN BEGINS, Eyetronics equipment scanned lead actor Christian Bale; the scans were used to create Batmans costumes and for a digital double. The Eyetronics technology particularly appeals to filmmakers whose movies have large casts of characters. In George Romeros LAND OF THE DEAD, for example, Eyetronics scans were a first step in making the digital zombies featured throughout the film.

Eyetronics equipment also provided scans for the upcoming features THE BROTHERS GRIM, THE LEGEND OF ZORRO and DR. DOLITTLE 3.

Eyetronics (www.eyetronics.com), with corporate offices in Leuven, Belgium and Los Angeles, specializes in high-quality 3D acquisition systems and services that enable faster production of 3D models, animation and special effects. Its scanning products and services can be used for a wide range of applications, including complex visual effects for feature films, television and commercials, realistic character generation for computer games and consumer-oriented products such as low-cost sculptures of scanned people or objects.
