Exodus Film Lands Comicbook Deal for Igor Film with IDW Publishing

The typical progression in the movie industry these days has been comicbook or graphic novel to film and TV, but Exodus Film Group has secured a comicbook deal for its upcoming CG-animated feature, IGOR, with IDW Publishing. The publishing program includes a series of full color prequel titles leading up to another series of books taking fans through the film and beyond, to then be followed by a full-color paperback, collecting each miniseries.

IGOR is a playfully irreverent comedy that brings a new twist to the classic monster genre and tells the story of an evil scientist's hunchbacked lab assistant with big dreams of becoming a scientist himself and winning the annual Evil Science Fair. The voice cast includes Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Jennifer Coolidge, John Cusack, Arsenio Hall, Sean Hayes, Eddie Izzard, Jay Leno, Molly Shannon and Christian Slater. The Weinstein Co. is handling worldwide distribution for the film, set for a wide theatrical release on Oct. 24, 2008.

âOur newest licensing partner, IDW, has a long standing record of adapting and creating terrific comicbooks based on entertainment properties,â said Bruce Auerbach, Exodus president of consumer products. âWe're looking forward to their creative execution on the visually rich film we are producing.â

âIDW has built a name for itself by producing good horror comics and good licensed comics,â said IDW's publisher/editor in chief, Chris Ryall. âThe chance to combine the two in the form of a clever and fun idea like IGOR is a perfect convergence of genres and will also appeal to younger readers.â

Exodus Film Group (www.ExodusFilmGroup.com) is an independent production company that has taken pioneering steps in the animation field by creating one of the first private equity animation film funds. Exodus announced at last monthâs Cannes Film Festival a strategic alliance with The Weinstein Co. to jointly develop, produce and finance a multi-picture slate of CG-animated feature films, DVDs and television series, with TWC distributing worldwide. Los Angeles-based Exodus recently opened an additional office in New York City and has its European operations based in Paris. In addition to IGOR, Exodus' CG-animation slate includes THE HERO OF COLOR CITY, to be distributed in North America by Magnolia Pictures, and BUNYAN & BABE.

Internet Mobile Group (IMG) recently acquired a controlling interest in IDW, which is a division of Idea and Design Works.
