Chris Robinson, aka the Animation Pimp, will appear at the Ottawa International Writers Festival to get intimate with his new book. Robinson will also get the inside stories on THE SIMPSONS in a one-on-one conversation with author Chris Turner.

Robinson, director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival, wrote a monthly column for AWN called THE ANIMATION PIMP. His new book of the same name offers a provocative look at the world of animation, from the nuts and bolts of running a festival to such far-flung topics as aesthetics, sex, alcoholism, and the author's own life. Andreas Hykade, who provided an iconic drawing for the column, created over 60 original illustrations for the book.

Turner's book PLANET SIMPSON: HOW A CARTOON MASTERPIECE DOCUMENTED AN ERA AND DEFINED A GENERATION delves into one of the most popular shows in television history and how it has changed the way we look at our bewildering times. Turner, in conversation with Robinson, will offer a cultural analysis of THE SIMPSONS, its inside stories and the world it reflects.

Both events take place on Friday, Oct. 19, at Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington St. At 6:00 pm, Robinson presents his insider's look at the animation industry and some clips from some of his favorite films. This event is free. At 7:00 pm, Turner and Robinson discuss PLANET SIMPSON. The second event is $12 general, $10 students & seniors and free for members.

Tickets are available in advance at Nicholas Hoare Books (419 Sussex Drive), at Collected Works Bookstore (1242 Wellington St, at Holland) or by phone at 613-562-1243. Visit www.writersfestival.org for more information.
