Press release from Asian Animation Summit:

TORONTO, ONTARIO-- The inaugural Asian Animation Summit (AAS) is set to take place on December 10 & 11 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An initiative of Australia’s ABC TV, Korea’s KOCCA and Malaysia’s MDeC, the event is produced and owned by Kidscreen, and will showcase the best new animated projects from Australia, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore to potential co-producers, broadcasters, distributors and investors.

Designed to stimulate co-production and co-financing, AAS will feature projects from each country in two categories—fully developed, partially funded projects seeking additional financing; and projects in development seeking market feedback. All projects will be carefully selected by the organizing partners based on global-market potential and quality.

Over the course of the two-day event, each project will be presented in a moderated live pitch and Q&A format, with plenty of time for follow-up meetings and casual networking built into the schedule.

Film and television agency Screen Australia has pledged to provide financial support to help as many as 10 Australian producers attend the Asian Animation Summit, underscoring the organization’s commitment to fostering co-production and co-financing within Australasia for homegrown productions. KOCCA intends to support the participation of producers from Korea in a similar way.

AAS 2012 is optimally timed to take place just two days after Asia Television Forum (December 5-7), with a weekend in between for travel from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.
