Caviar Gears up for SXSW with ‘Super Serious Show’ and ‘Big Bad Wolf’
Press release from Caviar:
Caviar has been gearing up for this year's SXSW with some of their groundbreaking talent participating in the festival. Caviar's ongoing collaboration with The Super Serious Show includes two performances on March 12th co-produced by Caviar with Funny or Die; and Caviar director Keith Schofield's infamous music video "Big Bad Wolf" will be showcased on March 9th.
The Super Serious Show first emerged about a year ago in the booming Los Angeles underground comedy scene. The Show is truly an exercise in do-it-yourself, having started as a small venture of three people who literally do it all - book the talent, light the show, sell the tickets. Once a month, this group of like-minded comedians presents a stand-up, sketch/music, and video show complete with a full-fledged pre-party including music, drinks, sweets and a food truck.
Caviar became involved with The Super Serious Show in early 2011, a testament to their support of grassroots local comedic endeavors. Caviar directors have been involved in the video portion of The Super Serious Show since its inception and have helped the show expand to new markets, including SXSW. Caviar's collaboration with The Super Serious Show highlights their commitment to relationships with today's best working writing, performing, and directorial comedic talent. It is all part of Caviar's nourishment of up-and-coming minds in comedy and is sure to provide for an amazing time in SXSW.
The SXSW Super Serious Show, co-presented by Caviar and Funny or Die, features T.J. Miller, Kyle Kinane, John Hodgman, Kumail Nanjiani, Jonah Ray, Aparna Nancherla, Jerrod Carmichael, Reggie Watts, Billy Eichner, with a special video presentation from Shephard Boucher (and there's even a surprise guest!). Check out the shows on Monday, March 12th at Esther's Follies at 8:00 PM and 10:30 PM.
Keith Schofield's "Big Bad Wolf" music video by Duck Sauce made quite the splash when it premiered in Rolling Stone last November. The viral spectacle that had everybody talking will be screened on Friday, March 9 11:30 PM as part of the Midnight Shorts Competition at Alamo Lamar B.
Concepted entirely by Keith Schofield, the man who brought you the unforgettable video for SFW XXX Diesel, "Big Bad Wolf" follows the quest of two swingers as they cruise through the city looking for a special kind of lovin'.
"Big Bad Wolf is pretty simple, and it can mean anything, really, so we wanted the video to have its own narrative," said A-Trak, one-half of the dance duo Duck Sauce, along with DJ Armand Van Helden. "Remember when dance music videos used to actually be creative? Like when you think back to Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk…I don't know why the genres' videos became so generic in recent years.
"When Keith [Schofield] came up with this idea of 'crotchfaces,' we just thought it was hilarious," A-Trak continued. "He started coming up with all these gags and describing the characters living in this sort of parallel world, and we were sold. He wasn't sure if we'd be down to play the leads, but our take on this was, if we're going to do this, we need to go all the way. So we played the dickheads, essentially."
The video was a co-production with Caviar and Somesuch & Co., with post-production and VFX completed in the Caviar Brussels office, and edited by Mr. Schofield himself at Caviar LA.
