The Merce Cunningham Dance Company, one of the most influential companies operating in modern dance in this century, is presenting the Los Angeles area premiere of BIPED. The production is a work utilizing state of the art animation shown, to tremendous public response, at Orlando's 1999 Siggraph. From the motion-captured phrases, the dancers of this piece were rendered as "hand-drawn" figures that perform the Cunningham movements with extraordinary accuracy. The San Francisco Chronicle describes BIPED as a cross between Walt Disney's FANTASIA and the effects of THE MATRIX. The event at the Alex Theatre will start at 8 pm on both nights. ASIFA members can receive a 15% discount by presenting their card at The Alex box office. The offer is only good in person and there is a two-ticket limit per card. The Alex date will be the only Southern California appearance of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in the year 2000.
