Estonia’s Animated Dreams Unveils Competition Lineup

Grand Competition includes a total of 28 animated films from 21 different countries.

The 18th Animated Dreams received more than 500 submissions from which 66 were chosen for the festival’s three competition programs. In the Grand Competition there are a total of 28 animated films from 21 different countries. The student competition has 24 student films and the newest competition program SHUT UP! consists of 20 films without dialogue or narration by students and professionals alike.

The festival’s artistic director Olga Pärn says that when choosing the competition programs, the three-member selection jury viewed each film as a cinematographic whole, judging each film on its specific qualities rather than chasing a narrow focus. “These are strong films with brilliant direction and very personal artistic statements,” Pärn describes the competing films.

The Grand Competition will be judged by an international jury that consists of world renowned animation historian and writer Giannalberto Bendazzy (Italy), Goya-award winning Pedro Rivero (Spain) and the beloved Estonian animation director and cinematographer Janno Põldma (Estonia).
