'Equestria Girls' Ride to the Big Screen

Hasbro officially announces the expansion of the My Little Pony brand with new property “Equestria Girls,” which recasts “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic” characters as human high-school students.

Hasbro officially announced via the New York Times that the company is expanding the My Little Pony brand with a new property: Equestria Girls, which will recast My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic‘s characters as human high-school students.

The toy company says its brand extension will launch this summer with a full-length feature film called My Little Pony Equestria Girls.  The movie is set to premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival before being released in theaters nationwide June 16.

Equestria Girls finds pony Twilight Sparkle entering an alternate universe in search of a crown that has been stolen from the Crystal Empire. There, she discovers that she’s been transformed into a teenage human girl. To find out who committed the crime, the newly-crowned princess “must survive her biggest challenge yet,” according to the movie’s official description: “high school.”
