Enemy At The Gates Crashes Into Second

With Steven Seagal and rapper DMX's EXIT WOUNDS topping the charts in the U.S., ENEMY AT THE GATES shot into second. The WWII sniper saga, with primary visual effects by Das Werk, Die Nefzers, Double Negative, The Computer Film Company and AudioMotion Ltd., collected US$13.81 million in its debut. Warner Bros.' SEE SPOT RUN slipped to fourth, grossing out audiences to the tune of $5.01 million. The gaseous giggler has amassed $24.81 million thus far. In sixth, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON secured another $4.04 million. The kung-fu romance, with primary visual effects by Blue Sky Studios, CFC/MVFX and Manex Visual Effects, has floated $100.3 million. Dropping from fourth to eighth, HANNIBAL sliced up an additional $3.57 million. The SILENCE OF THE LAMBS sequel, with primary visual effects by Mill Film, has gorged itself on $157.1 million. Falling a spot to place ninth, TRAFFIC snatched $3.41 million. The cocaine caper, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, scored $102.5 million. Disney's RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT dropped out of the top ten to finish in 12th, grossing $1.65 million. The summer saving spectacle has drummed up $33.31 million to date. Sinking from 12th to wash up in 14th place, CAST AWAY fished in an additional $1.23 million. The volleyball friendly flick, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has bundled up $227.7 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE at #21, with a gross of $329,973 and a cume of $86.89 million; 3,000 MILES TO GRACELAND at #22, with a gross of $319,918 and a cume of $15.35 million; 102 DALMATIANS at #29, with a gross of $198,526 and a cume of $66.45 million; THIRTEEN DAYS at #31, with a gross of $162,847 and a cume of $34.3 million; MONKEYBONE at #34, with a gross of $130,203 and a cume of $5.23 million; UNBREAKABLE at #36, with a gross of $115,640 and a cume of $94.72 million; CYBERWORLD 3D at #38, with a gross of $91,686 and a cume of $6.68 million; and RUGRATS IN PARIS at #40, with a gross of $86,954 and a cume of $76.37 million.
