EM.TV Expands Home Entertainment With Universal

EM.TV & Merchandising AG made a substantial move in the home entertainment field, signing a three-year license agreement with Universal Family Entertainment, to exploit the German entity's libraries of DVD, VHS, music cassette and CD media sectors. The contract, according to EM.TV, is in the lower single-digit million euro area.

UFE is releasing the product, which includes live-action and toon series, under the brand name "TV-Kult," with a big launch planned August 14, 2003 for the Popkomm music trade fair in Cologne. Both EM.TV and UFE will support the new product line with numerous marketing and public relations activities. There will also be a cross promotion of the DVDs on the Union TRV channel, broadcast on the pay-TV platform Premiere. The release of the second DVD product line is planned for September 2003. Matthias Schulze, md of Junior.TV GmbH & Co., KG and head of content at EM.TV said, the UFE agreements "represents an important step on EM.TV's way to further extending its activities in the home entertainment business." UFE is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
