El Cid to Conquer U.S.

Filmax Intl.'s animated feature EL CID: THE LEGEND will be coming to the U.S. via distributor Hannover House, reports VARIETY. The film will hit theaters in September 2004, marking Hannover's first foray into wide distribution.

Based on the 11th century medieval knight, the film follows Cid's attempts to defend Spain from North African invaders, even though he has been exiled by his own king. The film was produced by Filmax's Galicia-based 3-D Bren Ent. studios. The Goya-winning animated feature was written and directed by Jose Pozo and produced by Filmax president Julio Fernandez.

"We have been following the production of this film for the past three years," said Eric Parkinson, Hannover House president. "The quality is unsurpassed, even by the standards that audiences have come to expect from Disney and Pixar animated features."

Other animated features Filmax is ramping up include PINOCCHIO 3000, DONKEY XOTE and NOCTURNA.
