From Stop-Frame To CGI Animation Masterclasses
South West Screen, Skillset and Bristol-based Aardman Features are hosting a unique masterclass for animation professionals. Experts from Aardman and DreamWorks will show 2D and stop-frame animators how their skills can be transferred to CGI.
As Aardman’s principal animator, Loyd Price who is part of the masterclass team, says “The masterclasses are about taking animators on a journey”.
The class is being offered at a choice of three centers — Watershed, Bristol, on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006; at BAFTA’s Run Run Shaw Theatre, London, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, and at the Arts Institute, Bournemouth, on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Each masterclass will take place from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Masterclass coordinator, Lisa Howe, from South West Screen’s media skills development team, explains, “Animation is an important part of moving image culture in the South West. We see it as part of our role to make sure the region’s animators and animation companies keep up to speed with new trends. Today’s competitive market needs animators who are flexible and can use a variety of techniques, including CGI. Mixing techniques has become the growing choice in stop-frame feature films, like THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT, not just for effects but also for characters. The aim with the masterclasses is to equip traditional animators to develop their skills so that they can work in a greater variety of ways.”
