E3 Preview

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will take place this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 21-24, 2002. Highlighting the best in interactive entertainment, E3 plays host to over 62,000 retailers, distributors, developers and investors in the interactive entertainment business. New releases in the gaming world are the order of the day at E3, along with some great game demonstrations, two days of conferences and panels and even an appearance by Lara Croft. In addition to new versions of classic games like THE SIMS, GRAND THEFT AUTO, DUKE NUKEM, NASCAR, SMUGGLER'S RUN and DRAGON'S LAIR, games based on many popular film, television and comics-related franchises including BATMAN, SPIDER-MAN, DAREDEVIL, SHREK, THE MUPPETS and SESAME STREET will be showcased.

Here is a preview of what to expect from some of the biggest names in the interactive entertainment industry.

- DISNEY INTERACTIVE

Disney Interactive will showcase: the new game KINGDOM HEARTS, the first joint project between Square and Disney Interactive; TREASURE PLANET: BATTLE AT PROCYON, based on Walt Disney Pictures' upcoming animated feature; and ULTIMATE RIDE DISNEY COASTER, from Disney Imagineering, allowing gamers to imagine, create and ride Disney theme park rides. - ELECTRONIC ARTS

Electronic Arts will showcase its biggest line-up ever, with 31 titles including games based on popular licenses HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, THE TWO TOWERS, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, JAMES BOND, GALIDOR: DEFENDERS OF THE OUTER DIMENSION and LEGO's BIONICLE: MATORAN ADVENTURES. - INFOGRAMES

Infogrames will unveil plans for games based on the sequels to THE MATRIX. The games will be based on the upcoming sequels, THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS from Warner Bros. Pictures. Infogrames will also showcase the new game LOONS, with Bugs, Daffy, Taz and Sylvester as actors battling for roles in Hollywood's next big blockbuster movie, launching on Xbox in Fall 2002. For PlayStation 2, Infogrames will show SUPERMAN: SHADOW OF APOKOLIPS and TAZ: WANTED. (E3 Booth No. 924, South Hall)

- THQ

THQ will debut their 2002 product line-up including SCOOBY-DOO, based on the upcoming motion picture, Disney/Pixar's MONSTERS, INC. and a slew of Nickelodeon licensed products including FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, HEY ARNOLD! THE MOVIE, JIMMY NEUTRON, RUGRATS, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS and THE WILD THORNBERRYS. (E3 Booth No. 4001, Petree Hall)

- VIVENDI UNIVERSAL GAMES

Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) will showcase a product line-up including some of moviedoms most popular franchises. Bruce Lee fans will be able to play as the martial arts master in BRUCE LEE: QUEST OF THE DRAGON. JURASSIC PARK allows players to design and manage the dinosaur theme park. Two recent hit movies come to the gaming arena with THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING and THE SCORPION KING: RISE OF AN AKKADIAN, both in development. Finally, a video game touted as a "sequel" to the 1982 John Carpenter film, THE THING is scheduled for release on multiple platforms. (E3 Booth No. 1200, South Hall)
