Duck Studios Produces Trailer For GKC Theaters

DUCK Studios, a.k.a. Duck Soup Studios, recently completed a trailer for midwest theater chain, GKC Theatres. Formed in 1985 by George Kerasotes, GKC Theatres is now the 15th largest theater chain in the U.S.

Director Erik Deutschman had to create a trailer that would incorporate all the topic elements desired by the client and be able to withstand multiple viewings at the multiplex theater chain. Deutschman created a spot that he describes as, "a mix of layered, constantly moving graphic elements that at times interact with each other." The result was a "busy, dynamic piece, designed so that it couldn't be absorbed in one viewing, " says Deutschman. The visually appealing trailer captures the excitement of the movie experience.

The trailer uses a mixture of live actors and pieces of animation, in silhouettes, which remind viewers of the thrill of going to the movies. To create the trailer, actors were shot on digital video, and additional 3D elements were created in Maya. The live and 3D elements were then assembled in AfterEffects. Efilm handled the film output back to film.

In addition to director Erik Deutschman, the DUCK Studios team included exec producer Mark Medernach, technical director Laura Sasso, modeler David Hovanky, compositor Kyle Borth and additional mattes by Jason Stellwag. The actors are Melissa Timme, Devin Reeve, and Jason Singleton.

DUCK Studios, formerly known as Duck Soup, is a full-serve animation house in Los Angles. For more information about at DUCK, contact them at (310) 478-0771, or on the Web at www.duckstudios.com.
