DreamWorks Adds Ghostly Project to Schedule

DreamWorks Animation is moving forward with an untitled ghost movie that will compete with two others for a fourth quarter 2012 release, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Referred to internally as BOO U., the feature has Jon Vitti (THE SIMPSONS MOVIE) on board to write the screenplay and will be about a ghost who is bad at his job and has to return to school.

IGOR director Tony Leondis will direct. Gil Netter and Courtney Pledger will exec produce.

Another ghost project, no longer active, was FREAKERS, written by SURF'S UP duo Joe Syracuse & Lisa Addario about a ghost's point of view in a scary story. And a third ghost-related story idea is said to be in the pitching stage.

DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg announced in late May that the studio was working on a "super secret ghost project" for a potential late 2012 release. BOO U. is reportedly that project.

PUSS IN BOOTS and a third MADAGASCAR film are scheduled for March 30, 2012 and May 2012 releases, respectively. BOO U. is up against caveman comedy THE CROODS and Terry Pratchett adaptation TRUCKERS for the Q4 slot.

BOO U., liked every other DreamWorks film going forward, will be filmed in 3-D.
