Dora the Explorer to Ring Closing Bell at NYSE

On Monday, August 9, executives and guests of Nickelodeon, subsidiary of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), will visit the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dora the Explorer.

On Monday, August 9, executives and guests of Nickelodeon, subsidiary of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), will visit the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dora the Explorer.

On August 14, 2000, Dora the Explorer made television history as the first animated Latina character in a leading role.  The series, which has crossed social, racial and language boundaries, is currently the number-one preschool show on television.

To commemorate this occasion, Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon; Chris Gifford, Creator, Dora the Explorer, Valerie Walsh Valdes, Creator, Dora the Explorer, Teri Weiss, SVP, Production & Development, Nickelodeon Preschool and Cathy Galeota, Executive in Charge of Production, Dora the Explorer will ring The Closing Bell, along with a costume character of Dora the Explorer.

Dora the Explorer, created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes and Eric Weiner, is a play-along, animated adventure series starring Dora (Caitlin Sanchez).  Dora is a seven-year-old Latina heroine whose adventures take place in an imaginative, tropical world filled with jungles, beaches and rainforests.  She explores her world just as preschoolers do everyday, and the show is designed to actively engage its audience in an interactive quest using a variety of learning techniques.
