Disney/Pixar Sets ‘Incredibles 2’ for 2019, ‘Toy Story 4’ Delayed to 2018

Disney and Pixar announce a slew of changes to the studios’ upcoming release schedule beyond 2017 at New York Comic-Con 2015.

With New York Comic-Con 2015 underway, Disney and Pixar have announced a slew of changes to the studios’ upcoming release schedule beyond 2017, according to a report by Deadline.

The big news is that a release date has finally been set for the long-awaited animated sequel, The Incredibles 2. The Incredibles 2 is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 21, 2019. Incredibles co-writer/director Brad Bird is currently working on the script for the sequel, but reportedly has yet to reveal any specific plot details for the project, beyond saying it will be a proper continuation of the first Incredibles movie’s narrative. Most of the main characters from the series’ first installment -- including Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone -- are expected to feature as part of the story for the sequel.

Disney/Pixar has also scheduled Cars 3 to arrive in theaters on June 16th, 2017, taking the spot previously occupied by Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4, in turn, has been moved back to a June 15th, 2018 release date.

The fourth Toy Story feature has Disney/Pixar Chief Creative Officer and Toy Story 1 & 2 director John Lasseter directing from a script by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. As was previously announced, Toy Story 4 will follow Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) on an adventure to locate Bo Peep (Annie Potts).
