Disney Unveils Two Fashion Brands For Infants

Designed to appeal to trend-forward parents and discerning gift-givers, the Classic Disney and Walt Disney Signature collections of apparel and infant gifts were unveiled at the ENK Intl Children's Trade Show in New York City. Featuring scenes from Disney's stories, characters and art portrayed in an understated fashion, the collections will offer cashmere blankets, hooded robes and mittens, bibs and burp cloths, organic cotton tees, cardigans and casual separates. The collections will be available at exclusive boutiques and high-end department stores such as Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom this fall.

"Our new Classic Disney and Walt Disney Signature infant brands speak to a consumer segment who indulges in premium essentials for their children and who splurge on the occasional luxury," said Simon Waters, vp of Disney Consumer Products (DCP), Infant Franchise Management.

To help realize the collections, DCP enlisted leading infant fashion design label, Icky Baby, as key licensee. "With the expertise of Icky Baby and Disney's vision combined, we've achieved two new lines that are truly aspirational, elegant and classic featuring Disney characters in a tender yet subtle fashion," said Stephen Teglas, vp/gm, DCP Home & Infant, North America.

Icky Baby showcased the Winter 06 and Spring 07 Classic Disney and Walt Disney Signature infant collections at ENK.

For the Classic Disney brand, the first line of products to launch is the "BAMBI Collection" featuring gift items including baby blankets, rolled and tied with satin ribbons; soft block sets in tulle bags; boxed burp cloths in tulle gift boxes; and full gift sets and bath sets, including hooded towels and mittens. Items will be available beginning in September at Nordstrom and in November at Bloomingdale's stores nationwide. Beginning in October, the Classic Disney BAMBI Collection will expand to include infant apparel featuring soft tees made of organic cotton, 'take me home' sets, dresses and pajamas. Products will feature softly-colored sketch artwork showing Bambi and friends in various key scenes from the original film.

The exclusive Walt Disney Signature infant brand includes a collection of gift, seasonal and apparel items that are vintage-inspired. The line features rich and shaded color palette classics made of cashmere, pima cotton, silk voile, and linen, complemented by sketchbook and silhouette artwork, storytelling patchwork and iconic graphics and appliqués. The Walt Disney Signature infant line will debut in November and will be available only at high-end department stores and specialty boutiques.

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Co. that extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys, home décor and books to interactive games, food and beverages, stationery, electronics and animation art. This is accomplished through the work of DCP's various lines of business: Disney Toys, Disney Softlines, Disney Home, Disney Food, Health & Beauty, Disney Stationery, Disney Publishing, Buena Vista Games, Baby Einstein, the Muppets Holding Company and Disney Shopping, Inc.'s catalog and disneyshopping.com. The Disney Store, which debuted in 1987, also falls under DCP, through stores owned and operated by unaffiliated third parties under licensing agreements in North America and Japan, and wholly owned stores in Europe.
