Disney Interactive Takes Home Top WebAward

The Web Marketing Association has announced the winners of its seventh annual WebAward Competition for Website development. More than 1,000 sites from 19 countries were judged in 80 industry categories. This year Disney Interactive took home the Best of Show WebAward for its outstanding work on Hot Shot Business (www.disney.go.com/hotshot/index2.html). The site was also awarded Best Education and Best Game WebAwards. Hot Shot Business is a fast-paced simulation game for budding entrepreneurs, allowing kids to open their own pet spa, skateboard factory or comic shop. As well, Walt Disneys Disney Online took home the Best Entertainment Site award, Toontown and Disneys Blast took Outstanding Website awards and Movies.com took Best Movie Website. For film site work, Standard of Excellence prices were given to Big Spaceship for UNDERWORLD and GANGS OF NEW YORK, hillmancurtis for BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, and Xilam Multimédia for KAENA.

Entries were judged on design, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, ease of use and use of technology. The WebAward competition format allows Websites to compete head-to-head with other sites within their industry to win the Best of Industry awards. Sites also compete against an overall standard of excellence to win Outstanding Website and Standard of Excellence WebAwards. The 2003 WebAward Competition was sponsors include Google, BURST! Media, Perseus Software, VentureDirect Worldwide, Velocity Micro, Line 56 Media, ADWEEK and INTERNET WORLD.
