Disney Channel Orders New Emperor's New Skool Series

The Disney Channel has ordered 21 half-hour episodes of EMPEROR'S NEWSKOOL, an animated series based on the 2000 Disney feature film EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, to be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation.

Exec producer is Bobs Gannaway (LILO & STITCH: THE SERIES) with David Knott (RECESS) directing the series for 2006.

In EMPEROR'S NEW SKOOL, the one-time emperor Kuzco is a spoiled teen who must endure the trials of Incan public school and pass his classes to officially become emperor and reclaim his high life. His friend Malina strives to keep Kuzco's attitude in check while devious Yzma and Kronk try to make sure he fails.

Casting has not been announced yet according to a Disney release. Walt Disney Television Animation, with Barry Blumberg at the helm as president, is at its busiest in 20 years, producing hits such as KIM POSSIBLE and LILO & STITCH: THE SERIES. Both are franchises for all divisions of The Walt Disney Co.
