Disney And Bruckheimer Buy An Increment

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have purchased the screen rights to novel THE INCREMENT, per VARIETY.

The geopolitical thriller novel by David Ignatius is set to be published by WW Norton next year and centers around an elite group of British undercover operatives who are recruited by the CIA to help a weapons scientist escape Iran.

Ignatius wanted to work with producers he'd done business with before, and allowed his agents to release the book last weekend to Scott Free and Bruckheimer, for whom Ignatius worked previously on the script TANDEM COUPLE.

The literature community has given the manuscript high praise but some were surprised Disney bought the material as it is dark and the Iran invasion woven into the plot could be a political point by the time the film comes out.

Ignatius is a WASHINGTON POST columnist, and wrote the 2007 novel BODY OF LIES that was adapted by William Monahan into a Ridley Scott-directed thriller with Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. The film is produced by Scott Free and will be distributed by Warner Bros. this fall.
