Discreet has released 3ds max 5.1, a maintenance update available to 3ds max 5 customers as a software download from Discreet's Website. The 3ds max 5.1 update offers enhancements in several functional areas such as scripting, animation, modeling, rendering and mapping. Discreet has also initiated the Discreet Subscription Program, a new service giving 3ds max 5 users an online automated method of purchasing, managing and obtaining maintenance software. Under this new program, subscribers will receive automatic notices for software maintenance, as well as access to educational materials and feature extensions. The first extension available to subscribers is the Design Extension, giving 3ds max 5 users a unique set of tools for design projects. 3ds max has been used in recent films such as THE RING and STAR TREK NEMESIS, and hot-selling videogames such as GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS.
